September 2010
I attempt to transcend the surface of things through deconstruction and reconstruction.
By using discarded objects I realign them into a new life. Items that were once designated as trash – old memories and heirlooms of lost origin invoke feelings and impressions waiting to be expressed in something new. Objects are at once frozen in time and re-configured visually as an ongoing experience.
The groupings are not haphazard, they are chosen for their surfaces, uncommon shapes and an inkling of a “secret life. My impressions embrace Jungian archetypes, Tibetan folklore and the forces of nature.
I find the evidence of the Warrior and the Goddess among the tawdry and rejected to reveal beauty, sadness and even magic in my compositions. |
